Chidiya Tapu Beach Andaman and Nicobar Island

The Chidiatappu is the southernmost tip of the South Andaman and is situated at a distance of 28 kms from Port Blair Bus Terminus. It takes one hour to reach here from the bus terminus by bus and 30 minutes by private transport. This place is generally known as 'Bird Island'. In Hindi language 'Chiclia' means 'small bird' and 'tappu' means Island. All birds migrate to this resort. Most of the species of birds found in A & N Island are found here. Chidiatappu provides a panoramic view, scenic beauty, lush green view and lovable blue oceanic view. ]

This is the most picturesque beach for picnics and fishing. The surrounding lush green mangroves, the abundance of birds add natural touch to the whole area which attracts tourists. There is a beautiful guest house, maintained by tne Forest Department. Visitors can stay in the guest house with the prior permission of the Forest Department, Haddo, or the Chief Wild Life Warden, Port Blair. Near the guest house there are small hotels which provide good Indian food at reasonable prices. Visitors are advised to inform them in advance. They serve hot fried fish, prawn, chicken and fresh curd. Besides the hotels, a cook is also attached with the guest house.

A beautiful sand beach is within 2.75 kilometers from Chidiatappu bus stop. This is situated in a place called "Munda Pahar". To reach the beach, the tourists have to trek. A road to this sand beach is being laid. At present a large number of tourists and local visitors walk through the jungle to enjoy the natural beauty. This sand beach, like Carbyn's Cove beach, has transparent, clear water of the same level up to 1/2 kilometers from the shore. Sitting under the shadow of the trees very near the beach and hearing the sweet songs of the 'singing chidias', twiters of swallows, screams of squirrels, coos of pigeons and cuckoos, talks and speeches of parrots and singing larks, one tends to forget himself/herself on the Chidiatappu sand beach.
