Information about Devigarh fort palace udaipur Rajasthan
The Devi Garh Fort Palace in the
village of Delwara lies in an area that forms one of the three main passes into
the valley of Udaipur. Reghudev Singh II started the construction of the Fort
Palace in the 1760's. Subsequent rulers made many additions to the original
building and after independence the principality of Delwara was merged into the
new state of Rajasthan.
The Delwara family continued to live
in the Devi Garh Fort Palace for a while, but finally abandoned it in the
1960's. It lay neglected for years many until the Podar family took it over,
with a plan to converts it into a history luxury hotel. The aim of the new
owners was to marry the past to the present. Blending the old with the new is
never easy and it took a lot of money and years of rebuilding to convert Devi
Garh into an all suite luxury hotel. Devi Garh now boasts of an exterior whose
ancient architecture is quite overpowering, and the most modern interiors where
marble, glass and stainless steel have been liberally used. The huge rooms and
dining area are all centrally air-conditioned and the Devi Garh Fort Palace,
now even has an elevator!

All this may not be to liking of
traditionalists, but no one can deny that Devi Garh is an extraordinary luxury
hotel that has a certain charm and character that is completely unique. It is
an exotic holiday destination that offers luxury, hospitality, history,
architecture, atmosphere, a gymnasium, steam, sauna, jacuzzi, beauty parlor, ayurvedic
massage and therapies and stimulating views of the rugged and romantic
Aravallis.
If that is not enough, it is located
just 5 kms from the Eklingji Temple. Shri Eklingji, an incarnation of Lord
Shiva. is the main deity of the Maharanas of Mewar and is also respectfully
referred to as the ruler of Mewar. This complex of 108 temples, which began to
be constructed in 734 AD, is built of sandstone and marble. Subsequent
Maharanas have refurbished it and even today, on every Monday evening,
the present Maharana of Udaipur comes to pay homage just like his ancestors
did.
Another place of interest is Nagda,
just 1 km from Eklingji There are three 10th century temples here including a
Sas Bahu Temple that has exquisite carvings and paintings .The Bagela Lake here
also attracts many water birds. The Heritage Resorts hotel overlooks the lake
and offers comfortable rooms.
