The Devi Garh Fort Palace in the village of Delwara lies in an area that forms one of the three main passes into the valley of Udaipur. Reghudev Singh II started the construction of the Fort Palace in the 1760's. Subsequent rulers made many additions to the original building and after independence the principality of Delwara was merged into the new state of Rajasthan.

The Delwara family continued to live in the Devi Garh Fort Palace for a while, but finally abandoned it in the 1960's. It lay neglected for years many until the Podar family took it over, with a plan to converts it into a history luxury hotel. The aim of the new owners was to marry the past to the present. Blending the old with the new is never easy and it took a lot of money and years of rebuilding to convert Devi Garh into an all suite luxury hotel. Devi Garh now boasts of an exterior whose ancient architecture is quite overpowering, and the most modern interiors where marble, glass and stainless steel have been liberally used. All this may not be to liking of traditionalists, but no one can deny that Devi Garh is an extraordinary luxury hotel that has a certain charm and character that is completely unique.
